I might be able to really do this running thing...

Well, this week has come and gone and I am kind of proud of myself I must say.  I managed to get in 31 miles on a week when we had company in town and we went out of town for a day. Normally, I would have slacked off on my running (like I did last weekend) and not gotten it in and had good excuses for it...like "I can't run - we have family in town." or " I can't run, it will take away from our company." You know stuff like that...but I was able to get up and run - sometimes early, sometimes later in the morning- but I got it done none the less...

Here is how it went this week:

Tuesday - ran  3
Wednesday - ran 3
Thursday - ran 5 with 4 hill repeats in the middle
Saturday - 13 mile trails
Sunday 7 mile run

Grand Total = 31 miles Woo Hoo!!!

I had set my goals for August pretty low because of our family being in town for a week and a half.  I had decided that for August I would aim low...go for 50 miles....Well, right now I am sitting at 84 miles and I have 10 more days to go! Niiiice...I need to not set my standards so low next time, but I really thought running while company was in town was going to be much more challenging - probably because I have NEVER run when they were in town...I always said I would, but I always used it as an excuse not to.

I was able to get out on the trails Saturday and was so thankful!  I had not realized how much I take it for granted.  I only missed one weekend, but man, I look forward to that Saturday run every week.  It is kind of like the little dangling carrot at the end of a week...I can do this...I just have to make it to Saturday...I think I love trails for many reasons: 1) I don't worry about my pace AT ALL 2) I love the scenery - even the same trail is never the same 3) the trail running buddies that I have met - can I just say - they rock!

This weekend I am going to Austin to run "The Shoe" with my brother.  I don't know that he has ever run trails before, but this is a night trail race...We are doing the 10K.  I am super excited because I like to do races with my brother - it is one thing we can do together since he lives down in Austin and we don't get to see each other as much as we want.  Austin always has cool races - so I find them and he does them!  :-) That's what big sisters are for, right?

This should be interesting!
I am also getting excited about the New Year's Double...A bunch of my friends have signed up for it, so it should be super fun!  Some of them are doing double full marathons, some are doing double half marathons (like me), and some are doing different combinations.  I think it is going to be awesome! Who said good bling doesn't motivate a runner?  I know several who want that big double medal...I might even be one of them! =)

So....goals for this week are:

Monday - 6 miles
Tuesday - off
Wednesday - 14 miles (slow)
Thursday - 7 miles
Friday - off
Saturday - The Shoe 10k in Austin
Sunday - off

I would also like to get some cross training in this week with some weights and possibly a swim.  My IT Band has been bothering me this week so I need to be careful and ice and stretch it every day.

What are your goals for this week?
